BURRY PORT PRIMARY SCHOOL

The project involved the design and construction of a new Community Primary School to amalgamate Burry Port Infant and Burry Port Junior Schools by redeveloping the existing Infants School site. The new School provides accommodation for 210 pupils along with a 30 space nursery class and 15-20 space Flying Start crèche.

The project involved minor remodelling of the existing single storey Infant building to accommodate a nursery class and Flying Start facility, along with re-hatching the existing entrance foyer and administration hub. Two new extensions accommodate a Studio Pod building and a two-storey Junior building. The Studio Pod is a multi-functional and open plan space for key internal circulation links between the new Junior building and the existing Infant building. The new Junior building consists of four new classrooms.

The new Junior building has achieved Passivhaus Certification and the new Studio Pod building has been designed and built to Passivhaus standards. This makes Burry Port the first Primary School in Wales to achieve Passivhaus.
