CHAPTER ARTS CENTRE

WRW were appointed principal contractor to carry out a complete refurbishment and renovation together with the construction of several new elements of the Chapter Arts Centre in Canton, Cardiff.

The redevelopment has opened up its entrances, refurbished its cinemas, theatre and gallery and
features an impressive 60 foot lightbox that spans the whole of its frontage. The lightbox will provide a changing canvas for new commissions from artists born or based in Wales.

The centre remained open throughout the redevelopment and the project represents the first phase of these works and has prioritised the public areas of Chapter.

New WCs supplement the existing and kitchen and bar store areas have been completely rebuilt. This has been achieved by a combination of refurbishment and new build. In particular, a former external patio area has been enclosed, doubling the size of the concourse, café and bar areas.

This project is a good example of a refurbishment project which has completely transformed an existing building into a series of new spaces and readdressed the entrances to be more inviting and integrated with the public realm.
