SOMERTON HOUSE, NEWPORT

The project involved the design and construction of 16 self-contained flats to a range of specific end user groups together with associated drainage and external works. Somerton House on Llantarnam Road, Cwmbran, was previously used as a hotel and latterly was turned into a house in multiple occupations comprising 15 flats. This new development replaced the former hotel with a new three-storey building for people with disabilities and older residents.

The project achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3+ and meets both the Lifetime Homes and Welsh Housing Quality Standards.

The scheme includes:

• 4 no. Autistic Flats
• 4 no. Disabled Type Flats
• 4 no. Learning Difficulty Flats
• 4 no. Over 55’s Flats

The building features bay windows and red brick materials similar to those used on nearby dwellings making it appropriate for the site.
