YSGOL FFWRNES

WRW were responsible for the design and construction of a new combined Nursery and Primary Welsh Medium School for Carmarthenshire County Council. The award winning new school at Ffwrnes is a full replacement of the previous school with 420 pupils and 60 nursery pupils. The two storey building provides 17 classrooms, specialist rooms, community rooms, two separate play areas, all-weather MUGA and external teaching areas. The school’s imaginative design provides a variety of stimulating learning spaces. Arranged over two stories the design maximises the views to the nearby coastline whilst minimising the building footprint. Courtyards, covered classrooms and a roof terrace have immediate links to classrooms and the ecologically rich woodland setting.

The project is the first Primary School in Wales to achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and is one of only three in the UK to achieve the standard.
