YSGOL GYMRAEG BRO HELYG, NANTYGLO

The project involved the design and construction of a replacement Welsh School to BREEAM ‘Excellent’
standards. This award winning scheme merges two primary schools into one and incorporates a wildlife
garden and various learning resources.

Internally this included a community room, IT suite, multipurpose hall, kitchen, administration wing and classrooms. There is also a separate self-contained nursery block and a caretaker’s residence.

Innovative elements included solar heating and PV’s, rainwater attenuation through a pond with a reed bed that can also be used as a teaching aid, roof window actuators with rain sensors.
