This project involves the design and construction of a new Sports Centre of Excellence at the existing Coleg y Cymoedd Nantgarw Campus.
The proposed sports centre will be comprised of a sports block, and teaching wing, combined to create a two-storey building. The larger block will house the sports hall and gym with a two-storey wrap-around element for the teaching accommodation. These two blocks create a distinct silhouette and character to the building.
The classrooms will be stacked over two floors, providing a total of nine new teaching spaces to expand the existing school’s facilities, and alleviate the pressure on those existing classrooms.
Externally, the landscape will be designed with practicality in mind, but feature several sustainable drainage elements, such as swales, attenuation ponds, and bioretention planting strips. These will play an important role in managing rainwater and doing so in an environmentally friendly manner.
The centre will provide a fantastic learning space for this high achieving area of the college and will combine both excellent physical training facilities and the digital tools to analyse and enhance the learning experience.
