This project involves the demolition of the existing Longcross House in Cardiff and the construction of 35 new affordable flats in a mixture of one and two bedrooms.
The outdated office building will be replaced with a contemporary six-storey block which will provide 35 flats to meet the need for good quality, small unit, affordable, residential accommodation in a highly sustainable city centre location.
Due to the site’s proximity to a number of listed buildings, the development’s design is sensitive to its surroundings. The massing of the building is intended to complement the scale of the listed Cardiff Royal Infirmary buildings on the opposite side of Longcross Street.
The development will include an area of the public realm to the rear of the building in the form of an open courtyard, which comprises a mixture of hard and soft landscaping catering to the needs of each generation.
