The project involved the design and construction of 139 student bedrooms in a mixture of studio and flats on City Road in Cardiff. The block includes a private gym, cinema room, study rooms, and communal areas.
This new student accommodation development, which is called ‘Livin’, compliments Cardiff’s existing student residential offer and through interpretation and responsive contemporary design, adds a ‘fresh’ new dimension to City Road’s street scene.
The accommodation is split over two blocks ranging from three to six storeys in height. The design includes ‘Port Hole’ style windows on the outside and a sinusoidal profiled metal cladding giving a wavy, textured finish. Construction is a concrete frame to the first floor and Metsec frame to the remaining floors.
The site was located on a busy street in Cardiff City Centre with adjacent occupied buildings. The site was previously used as a car park and has been vacated to make way for this new development.
